My Brother and Black Tar

I remember when I was growing up and how difficult it was to deal with heroin. It just did not seem like an easy thing to do and most people were getting addicted to it. I saw as my brother started to get addicted to smack and just was unable to get out from under the problem that was taking over his life.

He realized what was going on, but the addiction was to a point where he could not get over it and this was killing him. He wanted to get out of the bubble that he was in, but the heroin kept dragging him in.

I think this was a part of my life that went by like a blur because I was always taking care of my brother and the issues that he was going through. I always wanted to be there for him, but that was easier said than done considering the issues that we were dealing with at the time and how we were looking to get over it. This might have been easy for someone else, but I wanted to make sure that I could have done it. It seemed near impossible to do so, but I continued as long as I could.

Eventually, my brother was able to go into a quality addiction treatment system that was taking care of him and even got him out of the problem that he was dealing with. It was sad to see him go through these issues, but I realized that this was part of life and that I had to deal with this problem for as long as I lived.

I just wanted to make sure that I was going in the right direction.  I never wanted to get caught up in that stuff and I never did.

These Drugs Are Killers

There are no redeeming factors when it comes to opioids, they are killers. Even if it doesn't take a person from this earth, it takes them away from their sanity. Drug addiction causes a person to lose themselves to the point that they are constantly putting poison in their body. Would you eat a pill called slow death? Most of us wouldn't but addiction has control over a person that they will make the most awful and dangerous decisions. This is why when a person has an issue with addiction, they need the help of a staff of qualified professionals. No one gets off of drugs alone and they do not get off of it without the help of others, but they have to want it.

It Is Hard

Life all worthwhile things, freedom from drug addiction is hard work. It is far from easy and most people need multiple attempts before they are clean for any significant amount of time. The family and loved ones of a person with an addiction must know this, they must know that the addicted person is in for a battle that they will most likely fail. What they must also realize is that this is how everyone erases their life from loves, they go through this process of trying, failing, trying, failing, trying and trying. Addiction is a lifetime battle and this is how you and the addicted person must see it.

As you can tell, drug addiction is serious business. It can take away your life, it can destroy relationship and it is hard to kick. Luckily, there are trained professionals who can help a person beat their drug addiction. All it takes is that you try and try until drug use is a part of your history and not your current life.

Identifying The Signs Of Alcohol Abuse

There are times when it is difficult to know if you have moved from a recreational drinker to abusing alcohol. However, there are a number of questions you can ask yourself to see if you may have developed a problem, and become more dependent than you first thought.

Firstly, ask yourself if you now drink to mask problems, or to cope with stressful situations and issues in life. If you now drink when something is bothering you, you may have crossed the line, and this could be a warning sign. It is important to recognize this stage of the problem, as you can then deal with it, or seek advice.

If you need drink in order to relax, it could be another warning sign of alcohol abuse. Think about your old drinking habits, and see if you have progressed to being a more frequent drinker now. If the situations and reasons for drinking have changed, then you need to question your drinking habits. Those who drink in order to feel better about themselves are no longer drinking for enjoyment, and should be worried about their drinking.

Another serious symptom of alcohol abuse is if you lie to your close family and friends to mask how much, and how often, you are drinking alcohol.

One of the most serious signs is if you always drink more than you intended to. This often signals you don't have control over yourself once you have a couple of drinks. If you are always the drunken member of the party, or never remember your nights out, you should know this is a major sign of alcohol abuse. Once you become self destructive due to alcohol abuse, you can cause problems in your life, as well to the lives of the people you care about. Re-asses your drinking, and seek help were needed.
